Videoslots slapped with a massive £650k fine by the UKGC

The UKGC has fined Videoslots Casino £650,000 after an investigation revealed AML and safety failings.

Videoslots Casino has been under serious investigation into what is believed to be anti-money laundering (AML) and safer gambling failings.

The investigation came to an end with a massive fine and a warning for the operator, as the UKGC proves once again that it takes no nonsense when it comes to the safety of players.

UKGC investigation findings

Videoslots has received a £650,000 fine from the UK Gambling Commission. The penalty was announced on the 20th of November 2025 after serious AML and safe gambling failings were detected.

The operator has also been given a formal warning and is required to go through independent auditing regarding its practices.

The UKGC’s investigation covered October 2023 to February 2024, which revealed that the casino relied too heavily on automated systems, which led to failure in detecting harmful or high-risk customer behaviour.

Key findings include:

  • Gaps in deposit monitoring - Internal thresholds are applied on a calendar-month basis, and not on the first deposit, which led to big losses for players.
  • No intervention in irresponsible gambling activity - One player lost £6,550 over three days across two months. Despite the clear warning signs of potential gambling harm, the operator did nothing.
  • Questionable AML procedures - One player managed to deposit more than £75,000 in prepaid digital vouchers over 16 days, gambled heavily, and then transferred winnings into multiple bank accounts. They even managed to access their accounts from outside of Great Britain.
  • High-risk accounts - According to the UKGC, there are unacceptable delays in reviewing high-risk accounts.

These red flags are of great concern as the Videoslots algorithm failed to trigger timely checks or even increase due diligence.

Videoslots response

CEO of Videoslots, Alexander Stevendahl, has pushed back against the UKGC’s findings. In a LinkedIn post, he made the argument that important clarifications were omitted from the commission's statement, which could mislead the industry and the public.

According to Stevendahl, no customer exceeded their self-set deposit limit. He explains that Videoslots uses internal thresholds to trigger reviews before players approach their own play limits.

He also frowned upon the UKGC, describing these thresholds as breaches, as he believes they can lead to confusion.

Stevendahl also noted that one AML case cited by the UKGC was proactively identified and reported by Videoslots before the assessment began.

The CEO says that they worked closely and constructively with the UKGC and implemented all the requested improvements. He completed his statement saying that he issued his statements to clarify the facts and prevent any misunderstandings.

The UKGC confirmed that the UK casino cooperated throughout the investigation and took immediate steps to address its shortcomings. Furthermore, the audit will be closely monitored in the coming months.

Impact on the industry

This case shows that the UKGC is tightening the reins and going all in when it comes to AML and safer gambling practices. The regulator has warned repeatedly that automated systems alone are not enough to detect any complex risk patterns and help play responsibly.

The fine for Videoslots Casino simply serves as a reminder that operators need to be more proactive despite their increased use of technology.

Responsible Gambling & Play Safe

The ruling also shows the regulatory risks and challenges of digital voucher systems. Which means operators are under more pressure to increase their control, due diligence, and communication with new and regular players.
